NEW EPISODE: The Matcha vs. Coffee Wars

For nearly a decade I considered myself the happiest coffee addict around. I loved everything about coffee . . . the process of selecting the beans, my morning routine grinding and brewing a perfect cup to perfection, the science and history of all things java, the unmistakeable taste, the heavenly smell, the everything really.

Actually, scrap that. I didn't love everything, and you coffee lovers out there probably know what I am talking about . . . "those" mornings!

Those mornings when you wake up and YIKES there is no coffee. You can already feel that headache starting. How are you going to stay awake? How are you going to function? Will you actually fall asleep while driving the kids to school? Has that ever happened to anyone? (must Google that later).

Like pretty much all coffee drinkers out there, my productivity, energy level and even my mood each day was dependant on those two heavenly cups of coffee I relished each morning, but then something happened.

One of YOU emailed me after I sent out an email just like this one. "Hey Marla. What are your thoughts on matcha?" Hmmmm. I was happily living in java-la-la-land. Matcha seemed like the enemy. But one day months earlier when I was visiting my favourite health food store VitaHealth, I thoughlessly picked some up. Well, maybe one day I'd try it.

That day came on September 2, the day I ran out of coffee and as I stood infront of my pantry thinking "Why didn't I pick up some coffee last night!?!?!", I noticed that little bag of matcha I had bought. "Well, I guess today is the day we give you a try".

In this episode, I take you on a journey through the Japanese fields where prized matcha has been produced for over 1,000 years. We talk about my transition from coffee to matcha, the benefits of both and their differences, what I unexpected noticed that changed right away, and what my final verdict is on the coffee vs matcha war is now that I am 6 weeks into this test for you all.

As a BONUS I partners up with my favourite health food store here in town VitaHealth (its where I get my organic matcha from), and for those of you that listen to the episode, there is a way for you to win a bag of my matcha as well as a wonderful giftcard from them. There are more details on the giveaway in the episode, s do listen in.

Your questions always turn into the best episodes here. So thank you, thank you, thank you1 And keep asking away :)

Because of YOU, my cup (of matcha) is full!

With sincere gratitude - Marla

They said the snow would start at 7am today. First they said we'd receive 10 cm, then they changed it to 20cm. I made tea, raked up our last haul of leaves, and sat by the fireplace and watched the 40 foot birch in our front yard. Sometimes I feel like she and I have a lot in common. Although she has already released most of her leaves, prepping for her winter hibernation, she has this huge branch that is clinging to every last ochre leaf as if to say "I'm not quite ready yet". Goodness, I...
